[00:00:00] If you’ve been here for any amount of time watching my videos, you know the number one service I talk about all the time that personal chefs do in a personal chef business is personal chef services, aka also known as regularly scheduled weekly meal prep services, right? Well, Today, let’s talk about other things you can do in your business to make even more money and be profitable.
Today, you’re going to learn over a dozen different services. 20 different services that you can do in your personal chef business besides weekly meal prep. Even though that is and always will be, My number one favorite. Hey there, chef Shelly here. I help passionate cooks start a personal chef business so that you can get paid to do what you love and have fun cooking for clients who love you, love your food all while working when you want, doing what you want, whether that’s [00:01:00] weekly meal prep services or the other 20 we’re going to talk about today.
If that’s something you’re interested in, you can go to the link in my description and get my free guide on how to do weekly meal prep services for clients. So before we get into 20 other services you can do in your personal chef business, I want to give you, you know, a big tip so that you have all the information you need to make the best decision about what services you want to do for you and for your business.
Because the absolute 100 percent most important thing you can do when starting your personal chef business is to make these decisions on your own. ahead of time. Make these decisions. And to do that, you have to know what is most important to you. Okay? In a personal chef business, the number one service, as I say all the time, is doing weekly meal prep service for regularly [00:02:00] scheduled clients, also known as personal chef services.
But the reason this is so popular is because You work to get the clients once and then you’re cooking for them every week, week after week. You do a lot more cooking than you do marketing and trying to get clients. You have a consistent schedule, you have consistent income, and the topper, you work during the day on weekdays.
Very different from some of the other things we’re going to talk about. So the first thing you need to do when you’re thinking about services that you want to do is really what do you want from your business? How much do you want to work? When do you want to work? And how much do you want to make? And then, how much do you want to market versus how much do you want to cook, alright?
Alright, let’s get into it now. On to lots of other services. Even though [00:03:00] weekly meal prep services isn’t always will be my number one favorite. That’s like the small text disclaimer, right? So, Let’s get into it. Weekly Meal Prep Services might be the number one, but the second most popular service that personal chef services or personal chef businesses do is small caterings.
And this too is for a number of different reasons. First, because People think it’s easier to get catering jobs than it is to get weekly meal prep clients. Now this isn’t necessarily true, and I’m going to do a separate video about that, so be sure to hit subscribe, hit the little bell so that you don’t miss a weekly video, and if you want to know more about that.
People love to do catering. If you love the energy of special events, working live with the clients, being in that party atmosphere, doing special food, designing specific menus, and all that kind of stuff. But then on the [00:04:00] downside, people only get catering every so often. So if you want to do catering, you’ll always be looking for catering jobs.
And the real downside is Most catering takes place nights, weekends, and holidays. So if it’s something that you want to promote, you’re really going to think about how much you want to do it to fit into your business and what you need to do to make it worth your while. It might not be worth it to do something really small, right?
So let’s talk about a whole bunch of different services. You can do that fall under small catering, because again, we’re talking about a personal chef business. One person show. We’re not talking about working out of a huge commercial kitchen, churning out parties for a hundred people and stuff like that.
So one small catering type service that’s very popular with personal chefs when they’re starting their business is the romantic dinner for two. The pros about [00:05:00] this are it’s really easy work for you. You know, you set up a menu that’s maybe three or four courses. It can be a good thing to do to promote during Valentine’s Day.
When just to have up all the time for anniversaries. If you have clients that are married to let them know, Hey, I noticed that your anniversary is coming up cause you should have that as a question on your food questionnaire. And if you want to book a romantic dinner for two, I have these dates available, different things like that.
And it’s really popular with clients, especially these days. Now that the pricing of a nice restaurant has really skyrocketed, it can be fun to, for a comparable price, have the experience in your own home with the personal chef right there. Now, the downside of this, of course, like I said before, nights and weekends, probably.
But other than that, too, it can be [00:06:00] tough to price this right where it’s still appealing to clients, but you’re still making it enough money to make it worth your time. Doing the planning, doing the prep, doing the cooking, being on site, doing the serving and cleaning, which isn’t something that you have to do when you’re just doing weekly meal prep services.
So you have to make sure you’re pricing that to make enough profit to make it worth your while. Number two, the seated dinner party, right? This is similar to that, more people. So multi courses, You’re preparing the food, you’re serving the food. That is a very popular service you can do. You just need to decide ahead of time, how much can you handle by yourself?
Or do you have someone available that you could bring with you to help serve? Are you comfortable doing multi courses for four people, six people? Eight people. Most people don’t have a table that seats more than eight, rarely 10 or 12. So you [00:07:00] just kind of want to think about that and what kind of menu you would want to do and get your pricing decided ahead of time.
Okay. Number three, other than the seated dinner parties, we just talked about it. There’s small event buffet catering. So this is where instead of seating, preparing the food, setting it all up in a buffet, right? We’ve all been to those and it can be any different kinds of food, whether it’s a dinner or something else.
But that’s the difference between a seated dinner party, multi course that you’re serving. Or a buffet where you set it all up. And this might be something where you prepare the food, you set it up and you leave, you might set it up. They want you to stay to keep the buffet refreshed and then clean up afterward.
There’s a lot of different ways you can do it. Number four, party trays, appetizer spreads, grazing tables. Again, these are kind of [00:08:00] like a buffet, but also party trays can be totally different. They might want you just to come, prep the food for their party, and put it in the fridge. fridge and then they’re going to set it up or they’re going to do whatever or they just want you to set it up as a grazing table, not even a buffet.
Cause again, sometimes buffets have chafing dishes and things like that. So this would just be a lot simpler service that you can provide. Number five, you could do corporate lunches like we talked about. A lot of those catering services are nights, weekends, holidays. Corporate lunches obviously take place during the day at lunchtime or even if it’s not companies, maybe clubs that have their meetings around lunchtime.
And again, this might be a buffet set up for a hot lunch. It might be box lunches, anything like that. Number six, speaking of lunch, let’s talk about brunch. [00:09:00] You could offer a whole service of brunch catering for ladies who are just getting together for bridal showers for anything like that. And I don’t think actually, It should be separate, but it made me think of that when we’re talking about bridal showers and stuff that also might be an evening cocktail party, which is coming up next.
Now that I think about it, but it could also be afternoon tea, which is a very different, you know, same thing. It could be set up. On a buffet or it could be more served or on individual tables, but that’s more different kind of in the theme than necessarily the service. Right? So as I just mentioned, number seven, cocktail party.
This can be really fun too where you’re doing something like maybe you’re doing past hors d’oeuvres and you’re having someone else help you. And again, it could just be something in the evening. It could be more like what we talked about with a [00:10:00] buffet or setting up trays for them and leaving or past hors d’oeuvres where maybe you’re going to include another server in your service.
Number eight, speaking of cocktail parties, Holiday parties. This is something you’ll really want to think about. Do you want to work during the holidays? How much are you willing to work during the holidays? What kind of holiday parties would you want to do? If you love doing this kind of thing and setting up those special menus and stuff, I’m not going to lie, this can be extremely lucrative.
Again, you’ll just want to think ahead of time. How much do you want to work? How is that going to fit into your business? For Let’s see. So all of that kind of fell under the catering media, right? So let’s talk about another sort of umbrella. And that’s this is probably the third most popular service that personal chefs do [00:11:00] in their business.
And that is cooking classes, teaching cooking, and that’s whether it’s in real life or online, right? So number nine, you could do private cooking lessons one on one with someone again, could be online or in person. Maybe they want to learn a certain technique or a certain type of food or basic cooking skills, and you could offer lessons on that.
Or number 10, cooking demonstrations. This is where they’re not actually participating in it, but you’re standing in front, maybe in front of a group, and demonstrating how to cook the food. And then maybe at the end they enjoy eating what you’ve prepared. And that could be demonstrating anything from how to do meal prep service, and then they get to eat it.
Or again, a Um, a whole three course dinner party or different menu. Those can be a lot of fun to do too and it’s easy for you just to do a [00:12:00] demonstration. If you want to get a little more advanced, there’s number 11, which is group classes. Now this would be something more where you’re working with the group hands on.
You’re dividing them up into smaller groups. This can be great for anything from. a group of friends that do a dinner club could have this and you can do it as a competition or just set it up each team does a certain course and you’re kind of managing it and then it all comes together at the end.
There’s a lot of fun you can do with that or even as a corporate team building that might be something that a company is interested in hiring for you. And now we’re going to move into the Sort of different things that you can do with services outside of weekly meal prep and catering and teaching, which are the top three.
Let’s get into some stuff that’s a little bit different. I talk to a lot of people who [00:13:00] do custom vacation packages. If you live in a very touristy area where you want to market to people who aren’t going to necessarily be regular clients, Or maybe you only want to work during the high season when it is tourist season and you’ll cook for them regularly when we’re there.
You can do things like offer Airbnb services where you do their grocery shopping and set up the kitchen and get them everything they need you can Arrange with the manager or whatever to go there before they get there do their meal prep service and whatever and it would only be once for the whole week and different things like that and that would They’re coming in for a bridal shower.
You set it up for a whole party and do all the food before they get there. You know, this is something that you may or may not be marketing to the client. You might be marketing to someone who manages Airbnbs [00:14:00] or owns Airbnbs and they are offering your services to clients. So that can be something you could explore what you could do for them and how you would run it.
Number 13. The cleanse. This sounds weird. Hear me out. You can offer something like limited time packages. There are a lot of people that do like a whole 30, which is eating a very specific diet for only 30 days, but they might need all their meals done. But they’re willing to do that because it’s only for a month, especially if that is the style of food that you cook anyway, offering that as its own thing might be a lot of fun and interesting for you.
Number 14, holiday meal prep. Instead of preparing the food, maybe they enjoy doing that part themselves, but they want you to do all the grocery shopping, get everything prepped and set up for them so they can just do the fun part, the [00:15:00] cooking. Number 15, new kitchen setup. This is something that you might want to, you know, either form partnerships with realtors or, uh, Market to new homeowners where you go in ahead of time and get their kitchen all set up for them.
Maybe stock their pantry and everything else kind of on the lines of that. There’s number 16 kitchen organization, getting their pantry organized, cleaning out their pantry, organizing all their drawers, doing all that stuff, maybe getting everything set up and matching canisters all labeled and everything.
This can be a whole service in and of itself. 17. Meal plans, especially when people are trying to follow a specific diet or, um, just want to have everything planned but don’t want to do the planning. Maybe they hate the planning part. This is something that you can [00:16:00] offer is you will do weekly meal plans for them every week, whether it’s a special diet or for weight loss or like I said, just for someone who hates to plan.
That’s a service. Number 18. Recipe development. Now this is obviously very advanced, but this is something that you can offer to not only thinking about it for companies and stuff, but there might be people again who are getting on special diets who would like you to put together things just for them that they can make for themselves.
Again, and if you’re really experienced, recipe development might be something that you actually do market toward companies and that can be great to do if you have a strong online presence. All right, we’re gonna finish it up and we’re gonna wrap it up with the last two which are things that fall under cottage baking laws, which are now active in all 50 states, [00:17:00] that you can sell So not sexy a term non hazardous foods from home.
So number 19 cakes, cookies, baked goods like that. You can a hundred percent sell as a service if you want to. And when I say service though. The things that actually involve service we’ve kind of talked about already. This is more you’re selling a product So think about that too. How much time is it gonna make you to prepare this product compared to how much you could be?
Making so you’ll want to look at the profit look at how much you’d have to do and see if it’s actually worth it to you number 20 the capper of all the cottage baking and that would be wedding cakes or special occasion cakes. These obviously take a lot of time and a high degree of skill, but if you have that, that might be something that you offer as just a sometime thing to people because you love to do it [00:18:00] or something that you just keep out there all the time for someone to keep in mind when they get married.
Or have a special occasion and need a cake. So that was 20 different things and that is a lot to think about. So what really appealed to you? Do you really want to do formal sit down dinners? Do you really want to be at like fun energetic parties or do you really want to teach? You know, really dig deep and figure out what you would most enjoy doing and think about, too, what is going to be profitable if that is a most important thing in your business.
But here is the big word of caution. If you are doing this, not just as a part time passion project, but to make a certain amount of money in your business, I highly, highly encourage you. To just focus [00:19:00] on absolutely no more than three, better two, or even only one service. Because the more services you have, the more you have to market.
And the more you have to explain each service, This is just going to make your marketing less effective, especially if you really want to have regular weekly meal prep service clients. The minute you say you do catering, that’s what people, that is what’s mostly going to stick in their head, unless you’re only talking about your weekly meal prep service.
So the more you focus again on one type of service. Always talking about that. Marketing that one service, the easier and faster it’ll be to fill your schedule, whether you want two clients or whether you want ten clients. Cause I’m telling you, the clients are out there and they’re hungry for what you’re cooking.
