Speaker: [00:00:00] When most people hear meal prep, they picture like the same three things. A thousand little plastic containers full of the same thing, chicken and broccoli, and maybe even someone flexing in gym shorts. That is not what personal chef clients are looking for. So in this video I’m going to show you why meal prep for personal chef clients is totally different from what the original definition of meal prep was.

And what your clients actually want instead. Hey there. I’m Chef Shelley. I’ve had a successful personal chef business for over 19 years, and when I’m not cooking for my clients, I help passionate home cooks and burn out pros. Just like you build your own successful personal chef business for the freedom, the income, the joy you want without the commercial kitchen, without culinary school, if you don’t have it, without working nights, weekends, and holidays, and without having to guess every step of the way.

So let me tell you, personal chef services, [00:01:00] also known as meal prep services, is not like meal prep about diet or fitness or single packaging and a thousand tiny plastic containers. It’s about real meals for real people who need real help. So let me break it down. First, let’s talk about the confusion.

The internet, no matter what you’re on, is full of fitness coaches and bodybuilders and influencers or whoever posting all these pictures and videos on how to do meal prep, right? With weigh-ins and macros, and 10 identical containers of tilapia and. Asparagus, and that’s fine and that’s certainly one style.

But when you tell friends or family or potential clients, I’m doing meal prep, they might picture that. And maybe you even had this happen and you’ve started second guessing yourself wondering, isn’t that what people want? It is not what you offer is [00:02:00] actually something completely different and way more valuable.

So let’s talk about what clients actually want when they talk to you about hiring you for personal chef services. They want delicious home cooked meals that maybe either feel comforting and familiar. They don’t want trendy, they don’t want foodtok. They want real food. Things they already like, but don’t have the time or desire to cook.

Right? Maybe they want variety without the work. Maybe they’re tired of takeout or frozen meals. Maybe they want fresh meals, no stress. Maybe they don’t want to have to make decisions every night. Maybe they even do want healthier options that don’t feel restrictive or fit into a diet, not something they can just pick up at the grocery store.

Yes, some people absolutely care about the nutrition counts or following keto or paleo or gluten free. But really to them it might just mean less [00:03:00] sodium, but not no sodium or just more veggies or just meatless on Mondays or whatever they think healthy eating means for them. It could also mean meals tailored to everybody in the house’s preferences

’cause they’ve got a kid who hates onions and the other parent is gluten-free. And then there’s always the person who never, ever, ever wants to see cilantro. This is exactly where you and personal chef services shine. Not by being a nutritionist, not by cooking the same little containers of food, but by being flexible and personal in your service.

Understanding this difference really changes everything, including how you should be talking about your services. When you’re talking about what you do or posting or whatever. Don’t say “I do meal prep” and leave it there. Say things like. I do personal chef services. I’ll talk to you to find out exactly what you want and [00:04:00] don’t want.

I come to your home once a week and prepare a fridge full of homemade meals that your family will actually want to eat, made exactly the way you want them without you having to lift a finger. That’s clear, that’s personal. That’s not a hundred containers of chicken and broccoli. Chicken and broccoli.

Chicken and broccoli. It’s not even, this is what I’m making this week. You can order or not order. Totally different. And here’s exactly why this matters. If you think clients want repetitive food or restrictive food or whatever, you’re going to burn out trying to cook meals that you don’t even enjoy, and you’re going to miss out on the clients who really need you.

So let’s keep this simple and make it speak to people who actually want to hire you. If you want potential clients to say, yes, that’s exactly what I need. Here’s how to position your personal chef, meal prep service. Start with the problem that they’re dealing with. Busy evenings [00:05:00] because of kids’ activities after school, or no time because they’re working so much or tired of ordering takeout every night.

Or they have picky eaters who’s making mom make four different dinners every night, or they have decision fatigue and they hate planning meals, and then offer the solution in their language. You’ll open your fridge and it’s full of home cooked meals. Dinner’s always handled, no stress, no thinking, real meals made for your schedule and your family’s taste.

Now, watch yourself when you say something or write something like peace of mind. Have you actually ever heard or said, I want peace of mind. No. Yeah, we want it, but that’s one of those things that’s not literally how we talk. So don’t talk or write like that. Focus on the transformation of the client.

Things like your evenings feel easier, like you finally have breathing room after a long day. No more rushing and throwing something [00:06:00] together or feeling guilty about ordering out. Again. Can you imagine if dinner becomes a moment to a joy and not just another task to do to survive? One of my favorites.

You feel taken care of for once instead of always taking care of everyone else or your fridge is full of meals you’ll actually eat, not just wilted produce and wishful thinking. All of those sound way more compelling than just saying, I do meal prep because you think you know what meal prep, you think that they know what meal prep means, right?

Or even something like, you don’t have to shop, cook, or clean up. I’ll do it for you. Talking like that, writing like that in your post, way more compelling. So you don’t need a nutritionist. You don’t need to follow trends. You don’t need to know how to cook every weird diet out there. You do need to know how to do what you do best, cook great food and take care of people.

That’s what personal chef clients want. They’re looking for sanity [00:07:00] and simplicity and something delicious at the end of a long day. You can give them that.
