[00:00:00] Figuring out what to cook for clients really gets to the heart of what makes a personal chef business. It’s yours. It’s all about your passion for food and how you bring it to life for other people. Hey there! If you’re new here, I’m Chef Shelly. I help passionate cooks just like you start a personal chef business so that you can get paid to do what you love on your own terms.
Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and hit the little bell so that you never miss one of my weekly videos. Now let’s dig into what to cook for clients and how to figure it out. Now, the first place to start The first place to start is to ask yourself, what do I love to cook? Is it comfort food, American classics?
Is it healthy, whole foods, vegan, gluten free keto? Here’s the thing. Your passion for your food will shine through not only in your cooking, but in your business. Clients can tell when you love what you’re doing and what you make. And honestly, it makes the food taste better too, right? But passion [00:01:00] alone isn’t enough, you need to think about what other people want to eat.
Ask yourself these two questions. Will other people want this food? Are they willing to pay for it? If the answer to both of these is yes, that’s when you’re on the right track. Now, if your dream menu is all about American comfort food, or popular diets like paleo and keto, or Vegan, you are golden. There is always a demand for these type of meals.
But if your passion is something super specific, like a very niche ethnic cuisine, then you need to think about your local community. Is there a large enough group of people nearby who love and value this type of food? More importantly than that, though, is are they willing to pay for it? And will they pay what you want to get paid?
For example, if you’re making authentic Malaysian street [00:02:00] food, but you live in a small town where most people are eating burgers and barbecue, you might have a hard time finding enough clients. If you live in a big, urban, diverse city, or even a foodie hotspot, then you might just hit the jackpot with a unique offering.
Another thing to remember is that your clients tastes might surprise you. Many people just want good, homemade food that they can enjoy with their families. Not Instagram worthy plates. When I started my business a thousand years ago, I thought I was going to be cooking fancy gourmet dishes all the time.
And yeah, when I started focusing on meal prep services more than catering, what most of my clients wanted was Home style meals. Regular, what we consider normal food that they can eat and love after a long day, especially if they had young kids. Still not sure what to cook? Then try this. Make a list of your top 5 10 [00:03:00] favorites.
Your entree recipes, or Make a list of your top 5 10 favorite entree recipes or meal ideas. If you can’t see a common thread between them, ask someone else. How would you describe this style of food? If you really want to dig in, you can check out my free guide for how to do meal prep services for clients.
It’s linked right below this video. It’ll help you figure out what to cook, what recipes work, and how to start practicing for paying clients. So the answer what to cook for clients is actually pretty simple. Cook what you love, but making sure it’s something that your clients will love and pay for.
Passion, demand, and flexibility are the ingredients for success here. Do you have more questions? Drop them in the comments below. Don’t forget to grab that free guide that I mentioned, and as always remember, the clients are out there and they’re hungry for what you’re cooking.
